During 2006, Preservation, Conservation and Restoration Services had planned to safeguard the parish records of the Archipelago of Madeira carrying out curative interventions and treatments in order to digitalize all the original papers. (ARM’s project). Nevertheless, considering the amount of work, the services realized they just would be able to put in concrete form the ones referring to Sé and São Pedro’s parishes (original and duplicated documents).

The ultimate intention of the project is to preserve the documentation through digitalization, changing its form to DVD or to ARM’s Intranet. This is fundamental to offer the users immediate access to the reproduced documents, suppressing the handling of the original papers.
